Week 14 Cathedral Restoration Update
Roofers from Ribbeck Construction working on the roofs above the altar and apse.
Last weekend we had our third open house since the beginning of the year 2019.
The Knights of Columbus provided coffee and donuts after the 7:30 & 9:30 AM Masses. Thank you, Sir Knights!
The Armentor family walking on the second level scaffolding.
Monica, Andrew and Isaac Broussard were excited to see the stenciled nave walls up close.
Some even ventured to the top of the scaffolding for a rare opportunity to touch the ceiling!
Parishioners and people from the diocese had the chance to speak with representatives from Ribbeck Construction about the restoration.
Outside, Stephen Frei of Emil Frei & Associates demonstrating the strength and durability of the tempered glass that goes over the stained glass to protect it.
Last week, we showed a video of Buzzy Ribbeck trying to break the glass with a 2x4. Stephen said Buzzy was too soft and too careful, so he showed us how it's supposed to be done! Click on the video below:
Stress Test # 2: The entire Gilchrist family standing over the tempered glass! It can safely hold up to 2,000 pounds, or even more!
Meanwhile, across the street in the diocesan warehouse Bryon Roesselet of Conrad Schmitt Studios is almost finished cleaning and restoring the last of the Stations of the Cross. More on this next week!
Stay tuned for our weekly updates!
